Launched in 2003, Discontinued in 2006

Based on the aesthetics of the well-established MOON Eclipse CD Player and the audio circuitry of both the MOON Nova CD & MOON Orion DVD Players, the MOON Equinox SE operated with an internal upsampling rate that features 24-bit/352.8kHz processing. Intended as a companion source component for the MOON i-3 integrated amplifier, The Equinox SE provided superior performance when paired with virtually any other integrated amplifier or preamplifier available.

The SE (Special Edition) version of the MOON Equinox benefits from electronic parts with higher tolerances in several key areas of the circuit. The result is improved sonic performance.

The SE version of the MOON Equinox is available ONLY in North America.

Technical aspects

Separate digital and analog power supplies using a toroidal power transformer with 7 stages
of DC voltage regulation
BurrBrown BB1730E high-resolution 24-bit/192-kHz Digital-to-Analog Converter and 8 times
oversampling digital filter
Internal upsampling which achieves 24-bit/352.8kHz resolution
Philips based transport mechanism using in-house developed control software
Accurate 50PPM digital clocking system
Advanced analog signal path using a DC servo circuit and proprietary 6dB/octave analog filter
Pure copper circuit board tracings with extremely low impedance characteristics
Separate digital and analog audio circuitry mounted on one circuit board, each with their own
respective ground planes, which minimizes signal path lengths and eliminates any potential for
interference and signal degradation
Rigid chassis construction to minimize the effects of external vibrations
Accurate matching of the very finest high quality electronic components in a symmetrical circuit
Designed to be powered up at all times for optimal performance
Low operating temperature to ensure a longer than normal life expectancy.
